I’m thinking about freshening up my bathroom and wondering if tile paint is a good option for the tiles. Does it actually last, or does it start peeling after a while?

To be honest, I wouldn’t bother with tile paint. It might look alright for a while, but in a bathroom, it just doesn’t hold up. The moisture and wear will make it peel or flake before you know it, especially on shiny tiles.

If you want it to last, replacing the tiles or using waterproof panels is a much better option. If you’re set on painting, you’ll need to sand the tiles to take the shine off, use a primer, and apply a few coats of tile paint – but even then, it’s more of a short-term fix than a proper solution.

I’ve used tile paint before, and it can work if you’re after a budget-friendly update. The key is in the prep – make sure you clean the tiles really well, sand them lightly to remove the gloss, and use a good primer before painting. Take your time, and you can get a pretty decent finish.

It’s not a forever solution, though. It holds up fine in low-moisture areas, but in a bathroom, you might need to touch it up or redo it after a year or two. If you’re okay with that, it’s a good way to freshen things up without spending a fortune.

Tile paint might seem like an easy fix, but it’s not great for bathrooms. The constant moisture and wear mean it’s likely to peel or chip pretty quickly, leaving you with more hassle down the line. Even with good prep, it’s not a long-term solution. If you want it to last, you’re better off investing in new tiles or cladding. Tile paint just doesn’t hold up well in high-use areas.
