Hi everyone! I’m just starting out in plumbing here in the UK and looking to put together a basic toolkit. I don’t want to spend too much initially but want to make sure I have the essentials to get started. Could you recommend the must-have tools I should invest in? Also, are there any specific brands or types of tools you’d recommend? And what about power tools – are they necessary at the beginner level? Thanks for your advice!
Alright mate, startin’ out in plumbin’, eh? That’s grand! For your basic toolkit, here’s what I’d reckon:
• Adjustable spanners—grab a couple of sizes, they’ll be your best mates.
• Pipe cutters for copper and plastic—makes life a whole lot easier.
• A set of screwdrivers, both flathead and Phillips—you’ll use ’em all the time.
• Basin wrench—for those awkward nuts under the sink that’ll do your ’ead in.
• A decent pair of water pump pliers—proper handy, they are.
• PTFE tape and a bit of plumber’s mate sealant—can’t go wrong with these.
• Spirit level—gotta keep things straight, don’t ya?
• Tape measure—always need to measure twice, cut once!
As for brands, I’d say Bahco and Stanley make good gear without costin’ a fortune. Rothenberger does solid pipe cutters that’ll last ya.
Power tools? Well, you don’t need ’em straight off, but a cordless drill can be a real time-saver. Makita and DeWalt are favourites ’round these parts.
Thanks so much!
