I’m planning to replace an old radiator in my living room with a new one and was wondering about the typical labour cost to fit a radiator. I’ve already got the new radiator and valves, so it’s just the fitting I need help with.

Is it usually charged per hour or as a flat fee? And are there any extra costs I should be aware of, like draining the system or adding inhibitor? Any advice would be great – thanks!

Labour cost for fitting a radiator can vary depending on where you are, but generally, you’re looking at around £100–£150 as a flat fee for a straightforward swap. Some plumbers might charge by the hour, usually around £40–£60, but most prefer a fixed rate for jobs like this.

If the system needs draining, that could add a bit to the cost, and don’t forget the inhibitor – that’s usually an extra £10–£20. If the pipework needs adjusting or extending, that’ll cost more, as it takes extra time and materials.

Always ask for a clear quote upfront to avoid surprises. It’s a pretty quick job if everything’s straightforward – about 1–2 hours.
